It does get a lot better. Review by Grant McLanaghan. A slickly directed and edited movie concerned with high-stakes gambling and the perils of ascending to the top of the tree in that world. Violent, funny and occasionally romantic, Tazza travels along feel-good, thrill-ride rails for some considerable time — but there comes a point when the storyline no longer proceeds as expected.
Which makes sense. There were some time jumps with patchy editing at the beginning which confused me a little, but after about 20 minutes the film got into its groove; and it really made me feel the high-stakes tension in the third act. High rolling. The war of flowers. The style of this is everywhere. The costumes are gorgeous. Every twist of this comes naturally and perfectly. Coming into the world of gambling. Cheating for the price of a piece of you.
Is there a thirst for blood or money? Gonna re-watch this sometime in order to process it's workings and story fully. Not sure on how most of the games fully work, but the tension is felt and riveting. Thought I'd like this film a lot more than I wanted to, since Min Yoongi said this was his favorite film. You can't always trust everyone, it seems XD. To be honest, it's not horrible, I did find it pretty engaging in the beginning.
The transitions and cuts matched a lot, a lot of tension was built up, especially with the film's concept of gambling. I loved the acting in this, Cho Sung-woo and Kim Hye-soo are both amazing at their roles and bring so much charisma. There was this really clever drive to it that felt like it was going to keep running throughout the 2 hours. It's funny, entertaining and has some cathartic violence.
Everything you would expect from a Korean crime thriller. I loved it even though it seems to be confused on whether it wants to show off the main character's ability to play cards or his Omega-level Mutant levels of regeneration. Story is good but not that impressive; however, I really loved the characters and their personalities.
Had a bit of suspense elements, too, which was enjoyable to watch. Running time was over 2 hours but it was worth it. I just have a problem with the ending, though.
